A Konstantinos Tzimpeas is attested for the year 1279 as apographeus in Thessalonica. A relative of his, named Theodoros, is attested in 1304 as servant of the emperor. The family name may be connected to the fortress of Tzympe (Çimpe) on the Gallipoli peninsula.
